In collaboration with Gan Sher Rhie, a talented artist and fashion designer, I've teamed up with various photographers to shoot her delicate, beautifully curated fashion pieces. Modelling courtesy of Carmen Loke.
Her fashion collection themed as Mayhem, is inspired by Pablo Picasso's painting - the Weeping Woman. The colors in the looks are a representational of a person's emotions. The paintings on the pieces depict the artist's impression on suffering and sadness.
The photoshoot was planned and themed to follow the lookbook style. The model was directed to pose in a moody yet subtle chaotic setting that does not overpower the garment. We make use of a lot of sunlight that are diffused through windows to create an enclosed feeling towards the mood of the garment. It somehow presents a hopeful yet still depressed mood.
I used a Sony a6500 with a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens to capture the shots. I choose that lens to capture the context of the environment with the model to tell a whole story. It has a 1.8 aperture which does really well to capture close up shots of the model by providing a good depth of field.
All photos were post edited using Lightroom. I've added matte onto the photos to give a softer look to the shadows. The highlights were toned down to give a softer feel to the skin of the model as well as the garments, to enhance the softness of the materials.
The reason for the softness is to show vulnerability in suffering.
